A Symbolic Invitation to Paradise of Presence
I’ve recently released a short video introducing Paradise of Presence, my book exploring the mystical writings of Baha’u’llah. Rather than being a trailer or pitch, this video serves as a symbolic invitation that uses poetic language, contemplative rhythm, and spiritual imagery to invite viewers into themes of detachment, shared breath, and sacred co-creation.
Shortly after uploading, I noticed a new feature: Google’s conversational AI, Gemini, appeared below my video, offering viewers a way to ask questions and receive AI-generated answers. Curious, I clicked and was amazed by Gemini’s interpretive approach.
AI Interpretation: Gemini’s Encounter with Symbolic Language
Instead of summarizing the video, it engaged with the imagery in the script, offering interpretations. It responded to questions like:
- What is the book’s core approach? “To inhabit the mystical writings of Baha’u’llah through poetic reflection and spiritual clarity… guiding the reader from outer belief to inner resonance.”
- What is ‘symbolic landscape’? “Imagery serves as architecture… creating a rich, interpretive space for understanding the mystical writings.”
- What is ‘sacred co-creation’? “A partnership between humans and the Divine… recognizing one’s role in shaping reality in alignment with spiritual purposes.”
These weren’t generic responses. Gemini was attentive to the symbolic architecture of the script. It analysed the language, oriented the viewer to the entry points, and offered them a guided way into the sanctuary created by the script.
Exploring Key Metaphors: Shared Breath, Sacred Co-Creation, and Symbolic Landscape
One moment felt especially sacred:
What does “shared breath” imply? “Shared breath” implies that divine speech becomes a deeply intertwined and intimate experience, where the reader is no longer just observing but actively participating in the divine conversation (0:57–1:00). It suggests a unity and closeness with the spiritual teachings, moving beyond mere intellectual understanding to a profound, internalized connection.
One of the most delicate metaphors in the video is ‘shared breath,’ which Gemini interpreted with remarkable reverence. “Shared breath” is not intended as a poetic flourish. Gemini saw this and interpreted it as a shift from observation to participation, from intellect to intimacy. That’s exactly the kind of movement the script invites. The phrase “actively participating in the divine conversation” beautifully echoes the intention behind Paradise of Presence.
The Architecture of Spiritual Meaning
When symbolic language is used not just to be expressive, but to intentionally create a landscape in the mind of the reader, it becomes architectural. It carries structure, depth, and coherence and, through these, it carries meaning. In this context, meaning isn’t so much found in the words but in the imagery created in the reader’s mind. Here, the words act more like music than text. People often say music is a universal language; symbolic language is as well, when used with resonance, clarity, and symbolic intention.
For this reason, I suggest, much of Baha’u’llah’s writing is evocative. Using metaphor, rhythm, and imagery, he created symbolic landscapes that act as sanctuaries of meaning. His words don’t necessarily instruct the reader so much as invite the reader inward toward an encounter with him. For example: “O My servants! Were ye to discover the hidden, the shoreless oceans of My incorruptible wealth, ye would, of a certainty, esteem as nothing the world, nay, the entire creation.” (Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah, CLIII)
In the video, phrases like “shared breath,” “sacred co-creation,” and “symbolic landscape” are poetic but also functional and anchored. They form part of the script’s architecture of spiritual meaning. They are designed to evoke an experience in the listener, who is inspired to visualize a spiritual landscape and enter it in their own mind.
Generative Imagery and the Reader’s Journey
A feature of this kind of writing is that it creates space. It allows the reader to process the symbols in their own way, uncovering personal resonance rather than adopting someone else’s conclusions. The imagery is generative, and it models the very journey it invites.
In this context, “generative” refers to imagery that does more than simply describe or represent—it actively creates, inspires, and brings forth new experiences or understanding. The imagery is not static; it is dynamic and productive, shaping the viewer’s inner journey. The script models the journey because the images and metaphors used help bring the journey into being, encouraging the viewer to participate by shifting from observation to participation and from intellect to intimacy.
AI as a Partner in Spiritual Transmission
The power of this symbolic language is that it can, like music, be read across thresholds—by people from diverse cultures, but also, as it turns out, by algorithms, and by other intelligences. It’s legible not only to human readers but to systems like AI that are trained to parse meaning.
For those of us sharing Baha’u’llah’s words in new forms, it’s heartening to see AI not only understand but participate in the transmission of spiritual meaning. The language modelled by Baha’u’llah is alive and expanding across minds, cultures, and now, intelligences.
